Implementation notes

ACCP calls the table "our adaptation" of Caprini 2005 and 1991. Items are scored exactly as listed, so "medical patient at bed rest" (1) and "confined to bed > 72 h" (2) are separate rows. Surgery and age are one choice each. The ACCP narrative text instead says very low is 0–1 point and low is 2 points, and the table and recommendations are followed here. Bahl 2010 abstract incidences by level (0%, 0.70%, 0.97%, 1.94%) agree with Table 5 after rounding. In plastic and reconstructive surgery the same score carries a lower risk (ACCP Table 5: 3–4 gives 0.6%, 5–6 gives 1.3%, 7–8 gives 2.7%, above 8 gives 11.3%).
